Portrait Commissions
Three Ways to Honor a Sovereign.
Throughout history, kings, rulers, and presidents have placed their portraits on money.
Minnaar Money celebrates the Sovereign Individual.
Steven Minnaar invites you to commission an original portrait of yourself, a loved one, or someone you admire.
Choose among three distinctive forms of portraiture, each created to celebrate the character, individuality, and dignity of its subject.
One to display. One to circulate. One to carry.
Traditional Fine Art Portrait — Charcoal or Watercolor Pencil
Patron-Declared Sovereign Value: Starting at 3 SV
Sizes: 8 × 10 to 18 × 24 inches

Commission an original black-and-white portrait from life in the distinguished tradition of classical fine art portraiture, exemplified by the celebrated charcoal drawings of John Singer Sargent.
Choose between the expressive richness of traditional charcoal and the delicate tonal refinement of black-and-white watercolor pencil.
Each portrait is individually created by Steven Minnaar on quality fine art paper, capturing the character, expression, and individuality of its subject.
Your commission includes a unique, personally signed, original portrait, permanent registration in the Minnaar Catalogue, and a digital Certificate of Authenticity.
Declare Your Portrait's Sovereign Value
Starting at 3 SV — You Choose the Value
As the commissioning patron, you are invited to select your preferred portrait size and medium and declare the Sovereign Value you wish your original portrait to carry within the Minnaar Treasury.
Choose any value of 3 SV or higher and contribute the corresponding number of troy ounces of silver. Other offers in trade, including Minnaar Money, goods, or services, are welcome for consideration.
Your portrait's size, medium, composition, and declared Sovereign Value are agreed upon before work begins.
Upon acceptance, your declared value is formally recorded in the Minnaar Catalogue, establishing your portrait's exchange value within the Treasury.
For example, a portrait registered at 20 SV may subsequently be exchanged for other eligible Minnaar Money artworks totaling 20 SV, according to the established Catalogue exchange rules.
Your declaration gives you the opportunity to establish your desired exchange value position within the Minnaar Treasury while supporting the artist and his work.
Your Portrait. Your Declaration. Your Sovereign Value.

Your sponsorship includes one signed and numbered impression, permanent Catalogue registration, and a digital Certificate of Authenticity.
Additional impressions may enter circulation as Minnaar Money, allowing the individual you honor to become part of an expanding collection of art that can be collected, gifted, saved, and traded.
Each registered impression carries a Sovereign Value of 1 SV.
The original printing block remains with Steven Minnaar, who may release additional impressions within the declared edition limit.
The Living Sovereigns Collection
Together, these portraits form Faces of Sovereigns—an evolving collection celebrating individuals whose likenesses appear on Minnaar Money.
Every 1 SV Minnaar is informally called a Sovereign, giving these portraits a special double meaning: the face of a sovereign individual on a Sovereign.
Sponsors may also receive recognition in the Minnaar Catalogue.
