A Minnaar Treasury is your personal collection of Minnaar Money — Art You Can Trade.
Each Minnaar is an artwork created or personally selected and designated by Steven Minnaar, assigned a Sovereign Value (SV), and recorded in the Minnaar Catalogue.
From original paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, Readymades, and photography to Artcards representing music, poetry, stories, and video, and selected works by other artists, every Minnaar offers something to discover and collect.
Begin with a single Sovereign. Add works you love. Keep them, gift them, trade them, or combine them toward works of greater value.
For art lovers who can't get enough, a Minnaar Treasury is a collection that never has to stand still.
Start With One Minnaar
Every Treasury begins somewhere.
You might even collect Musical, Poetry, Story, or Video Artcards—miniature artworks combining original visual art with music, poetry, storytelling, and video. Selected and registered Artcards can be exchanged alongside other Minnaars.
Over time, one work becomes several, and a personal collection begins to take shape.
There is no required size, strategy, or level of participation. Build slowly, make larger acquisitions, or simply exchange the Minnaars you already own to experience something new.

Art You Can Trade
Unlike a conventional art collection, your Minnaar Treasury is designed for ongoing exchange.
Every registered Minnaar carries a Sovereign Value (SV) personally established by Steven Minnaar.
The reference unit is 1 SV = 1 troy ounce of silver, but Sovereign Value is more than a measure of material worth. It represents the exchange value Steven is willing to accept for an artwork and would willingly offer in other Minnaar Money to acquire it.
Collectors may exchange registered Minnaars for one or more available, eligible works of equal total SV. Multiple Minnaars may also be combined toward a work of greater value.
Live with a painting for a while, then exchange it for a sculpture. Trade several smaller works for a larger one. Exchange a photograph for a drawing, or discover an unexpected favorite among the works of another artist.
You might even collect Musical Artcards—miniature artworks combining original visual art with access to original music. Selected and registered Musical Artcards can be exchanged alongside other Minnaars.
You can continually discover and enjoy new creative works without necessarily increasing the size of your collection.

Every registered Minnaar retains its permanent Catalogue record as it changes hands. Its Certificate of Authenticity identifies the work and documents its authorship and registration.
Only eligible Minnaars with a valid Certificate of Authenticity may be exchanged within the Minnaar Catalogue.

Choose a voluntary monthly collecting commitment and receive personally selected artwork you can keep, gift, or exchange.

Add something deeply personal to your Minnaar Treasury by commissioning an original portrait.
Choose from three distinctive portrait commissions:
Traditional Fine Art Portrait — Charcoal or Watercolor Pencil: Commission an original black-and-white portrait in your choice of charcoal or watercolor pencil, available in sizes from 8 × 10 to 18 × 24 inches. Declare your desired Sovereign Value, starting at 3 SV. Upon acceptance and registration, your declaration establishes the portrait's exchange value within the Minnaar Treasury. Payment in silver, with other offers in trade considered.
The Living Sovereign: Sponsor an original limited-edition linocut portrait for 10 troy ounces of silver, with other offers in trade considered.
The Secret Minnaar: Commission a unique miniature watercolor portrait housed within a mechanical wristwatch for 200 troy ounces of silver.
Each completed portrait becomes registered Minnaar Money, with its own identity, Sovereign Value, Certificate of Authenticity, and established exchange privileges.

I created Minnaar Money because I believe art should have a life beyond simply being purchased and placed in a collection.
I love creating art, discovering interesting works by other artists, and sharing those discoveries with people who appreciate them.
Sometimes I create a work myself. Sometimes I discover something already made and, through my own artistic selection and designation, give it a new identity as Minnaar Money.
I consider both to be part of my artistic practice.
But I also believe that owning art shouldn't mean having to keep it forever.
I want collectors to enjoy their Minnaars for as long as they wish, knowing they have the opportunity to exchange them when something new captures their interest.
And I want the works themselves to continue finding new homes, new admirers, and new relationships with the people who collect them.
